What will you do with the time God has given you?

By Portia Williams

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV

Time never discriminates, for it waits for no one and is controlled by the very hand of God who created the heavens and earth. Whether you reside in the United States of America, the continent of Africa or Dubai, there is one 24-hour time period allotted to each and every human being every day.

Time is a governing force which dictates to every dimension of life.

Time in its quintessence is constant and ever moving, no matter the resistance. It is a governing force which dictates to every dimension of life. Though we live in different time zones all around the world and even here in the United States, the way we choose to utilize time is what distinguishes us from one another. Is time your friend or your foe?

I would imagine that most people can say they have experienced time in both facets, as a friend and foe, right? For instance, there is nothing like being purposeful about the use of time. Let’s say you have a long list of goals for the day, and instead of procrastinating, you get busy and attack that list one item at a time. At the end of the day after each task is completed, you are able to embrace a strong sense of peace, contentment and accomplishment.

On the other hand, if you take the same list of goals for the day and become distracted and or disengaged with activities that are unrelated to your goals, you will end up frustrated and upset with yourself at the end of the day because you did not fulfill your desires.

Those who are time-conscious have the potential to operate in a spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and they are very likely to accomplish whatever it is they set out to do.

Obviously, in the latter case, you chose to make time your foe and not your friend because you did not manipulate it to make it to make it work for you, but against you. The same is true of long-term goals which require more time and a deeper level of commitment to bring into fruition.  Those who are time-conscious have the potential to operate in a spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, and they are very likely to accomplish whatever it is they set out to do.

As time goes on and we move closer to the New Year, it is customary to get excited. Another year is fast approaching, and some start putting their plans in place and setting goals. While excitement is great, in many cases, it is short-lived. I ask what about now? What about this day? What are we doing with the here and now? There is nothing magical about the entrance of a new year. Productivity is not promised to us if we fail to get in touch with the fact that time is something we must put to good use every moment of every day. In fact, 2018 should be a continuation of a rhythm of good time usage flowing in our lives.

The way we choose to utilize time is what distinguishes us from one another.

There will be challenges and struggles, but just as time does, keep moving on. Keep progressing, making the very best of the time that we have here on earth. May we all endeavor to use our time wisely so we may accomplish everything God intended for us to with the time he has given us.
