The 45th Annual March for Life: January 19th in Washington, D. C.

The 45th annual March for Life, the world’s largest pro-life demonstration, will take place on January 19 in the nation’s capital. The theme for this year is “Love Saves Lives: Life Is the Loving, Empowering and Self-Sacrificial Option,” according to the organization’s president, Jeanne F. Mancini.

Mancini explained that the theme highlights the need for loving solutions for women facing difficult pregnancies, and for the unborn in those situations.

“You don’t solve one problem by creating another,” Mancini said. “We believe that abortion will never be the solution.”

According to the Walk for Life website, “The mission (of the March for Life) is to provide all Americans with a place to testify to the beauty of life and the dignity of each human person.”

The march held on a Friday comes ahead of the January 22 anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade and its companion case, Doe v. Bolton, that invalidated state and federal restrictions on abortions, legalizing abortion virtually on demand. Since that time, there have been more than 57 million abortions that have destroyed the lives of innocent unborn children.

Pro-lifers from around the country will gather for a rally at noon on the grounds of the Washington Monument. After the rally, pro-lifers will march up Constitution Avenue to the court.

The year’s lineup of speakers will include NFL/MLB star Tim Tebow’s mother Pam Tebow, former NFL player Matt Birk and his wife Adrianna, U.S. Representatives Dan Lipinski (D-IL) and Chris Smith (R-NJ), and Sisters of Life’s Sr. Bethany Madonna. Additionally, best-selling Christian music artist Plumb is set to perform.

On January 13, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation designating January 22 as the first National Sanctity of Human Life Day.

Subsequently, this year’s Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is January 21, wherein churches around the nation, congregations will take the opportunity to pray for the sanctity of life.

President Ronald Reagan’s final March for Life address on January 22, 1988:

America was founded on a moral proposition that human life—all human life—is sacred. And this proposition is the bedrock of our national life, the foundation of our laws. It’s the wellspring of our Constitution. Courts may ignore it, and they have. They cannot—and I should add—have not denied it. When reverence for life can have no boundaries, when we begin to take some life casually, we threaten all life. . . .All human beings share an equal right to life simply by virtue of their humanity.

Isn’t there enough evidence for even skeptics to admit that those who assert the personhood of the fetus may be right? And if we are to err, shouldn’t it be on the side of life? I believe it’s time the law caught up with science.
